Another Round of YouTube Changes
Two weeks ago, YouTube announced their new program, Insight. However, it looks like they weren’t content with just one new change.
As I was browsing through YouTube earlier today, I noticed that things seemed to look somewhat different. Around the same time as I noticed that something had changed, a SEL post popped up in my feed reader which confirmed my observations.

The first part of the SEL post actually focuses on a new statistic that YouTube added to their Insight program. You can know find out how people found your video. Not only will YouTube show you the referral sources in a report or graph format, you can also get keyword data for these referral sources. It’s great to see YouTube expanding their functionality and slowing turning Insights into a true analytics program.

The visual change that I noticed was first brought to attention by Duncan Riley over at TechCrunch. As you can see from the screenshot below, YouTube has implemented the following changes:
The first change in the consolidation of Share, Favorites, Playlists and Flag into a dedicated tab driven box. The share tab expands out to give a more extensive range of sharing options which includes social bookmarking and voting sites (notably including Mixx), the ability to post a video to a blog, and send to the friend via email.
Commentary (comments and video responses) is now offered in a tab next to “Statistics and Info.” Statistics provided are video honors (YouTube awards) and video referrals. It would appear that users can hide site referral statistics but they are turned on by default, at least for existing videos hosted on YouTube.
