Yahoo: New Minimum Bids Implemented
On April 11th, Barry Schwartz of SEL announced that he information from Yahoo’s Search Marketing division that advertiser’s minimum bids could be changing in the near future. This change was initially announced in late February, but this was the first time that an actual date range for implementing the change had been announced.
According to the information released by Yahoo, this change could impact advertiser’s in one of two ways. If your campaigns running through Yahoo Search Marketing are not up to their standards, your minimum bid could increase above ten cents. However, if your campaigns are relative and offer a quality user experience to visitors, your minimum bid could decrease below ten cents.

Exactly one week later, it looks like Yahoo has implemented the minimum bid change. Barry noted a wide variety of changes for individual advertisers at SER. Depending on the campaign, advertisers “noticing spikes in their minimum bids as low as 2X and as high as 4X the original minimum bid price.” However, “I have not seen anyone say that they minimum bids are now less than $0.10.” It will be interesting to see if anyone actually sees their minimum bid drop below ten cents.
So, what’s the moral to this story? As online advertising continues to grow, the major PPC engines are going to continue to get stricter and monetarily penalize inferior content, so it’s time for you to make the investment and ensure that you have high quality PPC campaigns in place.
